Select layout style

There are three layouts you can use for recommenders, an in-page carousel, popup and sticky widget. The type you select will change your next steps. Read the section below to see which type of recommender you want to create, and then follow the link to the next steps.

Three layout styles are:

In-page(carousel)

On top of page

Sticky Widget

A carousel recommender will appear integrated into your webpage with images and descriptions of recommended products. Customers can click the left and right arrows to see all of the recommendations.

There are 10 presentation methods of product carousel and collage, which can be selected and set according to different situations and needs:

  • Basic carousel

  • Horizontal banner + 6-column carousel

  • Basic grid

  • 3-column gallery grid

  • 4-column gallery grid

  • 5-column gallery grid

  • 10-column gallery grid

  • Full-page gallery grid

  • Full-page 4-Column basic grid

  • Full-page alternating grid

On top of page

When visitors enter the site, a pop-up window will pop up on the top of page to recommend products to them. Products can be displayed one at a time or in a group.

Scroll-to-trigger

You can create a comfortable browsing and shopping experience for your customers by choosing an unobtrusive recommendation popup which will only triggered the recommender when scroll until the specific percentage of a page.

For example: If you set the trigger position to "Scroll to 50% of the page", customers will see your personalized product recommendations popup when they've scrolled halfway down the page. Customers can then minimize or expand to see more recommended products.

Bottom Left Popup

This placement is great when most of your store’s other widgets (such as chatbots, other promotions, etc.) are located on the right side of the screen. This allows your popup to stand out.

Bottom Right Popup

If your store does not have any other widgets (such as chatbots, or other promotions) or most of the widgets are on the left side, then this is a great placement for your popup.

Center Popup

This popup will jump out at customers to grab their attention. This is great on most pages, but not all.

We do not recommend using this placement on your Product Details pages.

When a customer is looking at product details, they are viewing something that they are interested in. A popup at that time may distract a customer from an item they were going to purchase and negatively impact their shopping experience.

Right-edge Tab Popup

This popup is the most unobtrusive on a page but can still draw a customer’s attention. By default, the popup will be in its closed state until a customer clicks on it. When clicked on, this popup will look the same as the center popup.

Use caution if you have any other widgets near the middle-upper section of your screen as there may be overlap. You should be able to use this popup even if there are widgets in the bottom right of your page.

Tips: We recommend setting up at least one in-page carousel recommender first in each of your main pages (homepage, product list, product details, shopping cart page), as in-page carousels tend to generate better results compared to the popup layout.

Popup works better as a supplementary recommendation, like an extra nudge to your customers. Too many popups might interfere with your customer's shopping experience.

Sticky Widget

The sticky widget is a small window that stays fixed on the left or right side of the page you've set it on. When consumers click on it, the small window expands to show both "Recommended Products" and "Recently Viewed" items.

Different from pop-up, the sticky widget can only expand and collapse on the left or right side of the page. It won't disappear if a consumer clicks it closed. However, once they leave the recommendation space, it won't display recommended products again.

In the next chapter, we’ll explain how to select the best page for your recommendation placement.
